His experience ranges from medical devices and pharmaceuticals to in-vivo and in-vitro diagnostics encompassing research, product development, manufacturing and commercialization.
In addition to his roles at Imanova and the MRC, John is Chairman for the Council of Cardiff University and chairs the board of MRC Technology, whilst also being a Non-Executive Director of both the Alliance Medical Group and Renishaw plc and a board member of the University and College Employers Association.
Until July 2011 John was the Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer of the MRC, the UK's largest funding agency for medical research, and continues to sit on the MRC's finance and audit committee.
As an advisor to several public sector organisations, he currently chairs the Technology Strategy Board's stratified medicine advisory board, is a steering board member of the HealthTech and Medicines KTN and an advisor to the University of Manchester's venture fund. He has sat on various government and clinical boards and is a member of the Science Advisory Council for Wales and was a founder trustee of the Francis Crick Institute.
